National Eisteddfod
AVOW was joined in its marquee at this year’s National Eisteddfod in Wrexham by 16 local voluntary and community groups and charities. Local people came along to find out more about the voluntary sector and local volunteering opportunities. A major attraction provided by AVOW was the coracle lagoon was also of particular interest for children.
Over the 8 days from Saturday 30th July until Saturday 6th August, AVOW and its partner organisations ran a host of activities and presented information to raise awareness of their work in the voluntary sector.
The weather held up for most of the week, and more than 950 children had a ride on the coracle boats in AVOW’s straw bale lagoon. Organisations were pleased that AVOW had offered them the opportunity to attend the Eisteddfod in AVOW’s marquee, as they would not have otherwise been able to be present. AVOW shared its stand with County Voluntary Councils from across North Wales, as well as Betsi Cadwalladr University Health Board Community Health Council and Wrexham County Borough Council Health Promotion Team.
One stallholder praised AVOW’s initiative, saying that they hoped other voluntary councils follow AVOW’s example.
