Funky Dragon Voluntary Sector Representative

In Wrexham, like every other Local Authority Area we have up to FOUR representatives on the Grand Council.

  • 1 to represent the Statutory Sector;
  • 1 to represent the Voluntary Sector;
  • 1 to represent Schools Councils;
  • and 1 to represent Specific Interest Groups.

All members are elcted onto the Grand Council for a term of two years, however they can be re-elected by their Youth Forum/ Council.

In Wrexham, Wrexham County Borough Council's Youth Services' Participation Team facilitate the elections for the Statutory Sector Representative, Schools Council Representative and the Specific Interest Groups Representative.

The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) facilitate the election for the Voluntary Sector Representative as they have links with a wide range of voluntary organisations and community groups but the Wrexham County Borough Council’s Participation Team Participation team support them in this process.

CAN I BECOME INVOLVED NOW?

There is currently a VACANCY for a VOLUNTARY SECTOR REPRESENTATIVE on Funky Dragon Grand Council, as Kathryn Evans from Caia Park Youth Forum, Wrexham’s Voluntary Sector Representative has recently completed her two year term that she was elected for. (And I must add has done a fantastic job!)

AVOW are now seeking nominations from any young person from a voluntary organisation or community group that would be interested in joining the Grand Council to represent the interests of young people from the voluntary sector in Wrexham.

If you are a young person who is interested in applying all you need to do is check that you meet the eligibility criteria below and send in a nomination form that is available from your organisation or project, and also is available to download below:

WHAT HAPPENS THEN?

All young people who nominate themselves to stand as the Voluntary Sector Representative on Funky Dragon's Grand Council will then be supported by AVOW to run their own election campaign which will culminate in a final election event on the evening of Wednesday, 12th August 2009 at AVOW, whereby all nominees will be invited to do a short 5 minute presentation on ‘why you want to become the voluntary sector representative on Funky Dragon and what you will bring to the post’.

Every young person is elected onto Funky Dragon so after the presentations all young people in attendance at the September will be asked to vote for the young person they would like to represent them on Funky Dragon.

The thought of delivering a presentation can be quite scary but don’t worry you can bring with you your friends for support and/or a worker or volunteer from your organisation or project - just make sure you fill in the form that comes with your invitation letter so we know how many people to expect!
