Phase 2 of the Strategy
It has been recognised that the Strategy for Older People in Wales has been an important agent for change. However there are still many issues to be addressed.
The Welsh Assembly Government has committed itself to a ten-year strategy and the second five-year phase has recently been announced. To help drive the strategy a Commissioner for Older People in Wales position has been established and Ruth Marks appointed into the post.
Whilst the primary focus of the first phase of the strategy was on establishing processes to facilitate the engagement of the over 50`s the second phase of the strategy will focus on the importance of taking into account older peoples views in ALL policy areas.
This "mainstreaming" will encourage local authorities and other stakeholders to build on work already underway and consider and involve older people in areas of development, education and skills development, transport, housing and income maximisation.
To make this happen the Wrexham Over 50`s Forum will have to continue to work hard and engage with its members and members of the public in general. Wrexham Over 50`s Forum is well placed to undertake this work, by building on the excellent local links and relationships it has with the Planning and Development Officer, Wrexham County Borough Council, AVOW and Wrexham Over 50`s Forum members.
